National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of DVVPF’s Medical College & Hospital, Ahilyanagar, was established in the academic year 2016–17 with an intake of 50 NSS volunteers, under the permission and guidance of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik.
Recognizing the active participation and contribution of students in community service, the college received approval to increase the NSS intake to 150 volunteers per year from the academic year 2025–26.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a public service programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. It was launched in 1969 during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi with the objective of developing the personality of students through community service.
Aims of NSS
- To develop students’ personality through community service.
- To inculcate a sense of social responsibility and civic awareness.
- To engage students in activities promoting discipline, empathy, and a spirit of service.
- To channelize the energy of youth towards nation-building through voluntary service.
Objectives of NSS
- Personality Development: Develop leadership, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
- Social Responsibility: Encourage participation in community welfare activities.
- National Integration: Promote unity among students from diverse backgrounds, regions, and cultures.
- Awareness Generation: Create awareness regarding health, education, environment, and social issues.
- Bridging the Gap: Strengthen the connection between educational institutions and society.
- Rural Development: Encourage active participation in rural upliftment and development programmes.
