Equal Opportunity Cell

Introduction

The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) of the Medical College is constituted in accordance with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC), National Medical Commission (NMC), Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), and the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The Cell is committed to promoting equity, inclusiveness, diversity, and equal opportunities for all students, faculty, and staff members. It strives to create an environment free from discrimination and ensures that every individual has equal access to educational, research, clinical, and developmental opportunities.

Objectives

  1. To promote equality, inclusiveness, and non-discrimination among students, faculty, and staff.
  2. To ensure equal access to academic, clinical, research, sports, cultural, and extracurricular opportunities.
  3. To safeguard the interests of students belonging to SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Minority communities, Women, and Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan).
  4. To facilitate access to scholarships, financial assistance, government welfare schemes, and institutional support services.
  5. To provide mentoring, counselling, academic support, and career guidance to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  6. To promote awareness regarding constitutional values, human rights, gender equity, social justice, and disability inclusion.
  7. To identify and address barriers affecting participation, retention, progression, and success of students.
  8. To support the implementation of NEP 2020 initiatives related to equity, accessibility, and inclusive education.

Composition

The Equal Opportunity Cell shall consist of:

  • Dean – Chairperson
  • Student Welfare Officer – In- charge
  • IQAC Coordinator – Member
  • Medical Superintendent – Member
  • Faculty Representatives from Pre-clinical, Para-clinical, and Clinical Departments – Members
  • Nodal Officer for Divyangjan Affairs – Member
  • Women Cell Representative – Member
  • Hostel Warden/Rector Representative – Member
  • Administrative Officer – Member
  • Counsellor/Psychologist – Member
  • Student Representatives (UG and PG) – Members
  • Representative from SC/ST/OBC/EWS Categories – Member

Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensure equal opportunities and fair treatment in academic and institutional activities.
  • Facilitate dissemination of information regarding scholarships, fellowships, fee concessions, and welfare schemes.
  • Organize awareness programmes on equity, inclusiveness, gender sensitization, disability rights, and constitutional values.
  • Provide support through mentoring, counselling, remedial coaching, and career guidance.
  • Promote accessibility of classrooms, laboratories, libraries, hostels, sports facilities, and healthcare services for Divyangjan students.
  • Encourage participation of students from disadvantaged groups in research projects, NSS activities, sports, cultural programmes, and student leadership roles.
  • Coordinate with the Grievance Redressal Committee, Anti-Ragging Committee, Women Development Cell, Internal Complaints Committee, and IQAC.
  • Address concerns related to discrimination, exclusion, accessibility, and equal participation.
  • Recommend measures to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion across the institution.
