Introduction

Department Details :

The Department of Ophthalmology is located on ground floor.  There are 30 beds operating as a single unit, headed by a professor.

The Department is taking all the measures to control blindness in the community under National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB). 

Commonest being vision correction by prescription of spectacles and vision restoration by performing cataract surgeries (Phaco & SICS) with implantation of intraocular lenses. The Department has state of art equipments for diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic disorders.

To provide highest quality ophthalmic care.

Conduct continuing educational programs and activities to keep up with the changing trends in the field.

To create awareness about eye donation in the society by conducting various programs.

To create awareness about glaucoma in the society.

To provide such knowledge and skills to the postgraduate students that shall enable him to practice as a clinician, as a primary health care physician and surgeon

.To function effectively to assist in the implementation of National programs for the prevention of blindness and rehabilitation of the visually impaired.  

Specialty Services

Eye Bank

Dr Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Medical College and Hospital Eye bank is approved by Govt. of Maharashtra. Our Eye Bank retrieves eyes for corneal transplants & helps people get there sight back by performing Keratoplasty.

Cornea Clinic Cornea clinic deals with a range of infectious and inflammatory eye conditions which ultimately affect the transparency of the cornea and cause corneal blindness. We have Photo slit lamp (TOPCON) useful for photo-documentation and teaching purpose. Such patients with corneal blindness receive corneal transplant performed by cornea experts in our department.

Retina Clinic Our department provides facilities to screen and treat all types of retinal problems including diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, ARMD and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy with the help of instruments such as Fundus camera, double frequency ND:YAG laser & Optical Coherence Tomography (Topcon). We provide varied retinal surgeries with the help of Vitrectomy machine –Constellation (ALCON) & BIOM instruments.

Glaucoma Clinic We have all advanced diagnostic & surgical facilities required for the management of Glaucoma which is a common vision threatening disorder of the eye.

Squint & Peadiatric Ophthalmology Clinic Peadiatric ophthalmology caters special attention to evaluate paediatric patients using , instruments such as Synaptophore . We also provide squint & cataract surgeries for affected children.

Oculoplasty Clinic Surgical facilities for Oculoplastic surgeries like Ptosis, Orbital surgeries, Squint surgeries are available.

Neuro-Ophthalmology Advance equipments like C.T Scan, MRI are available to evaluate Neuro-ophthalmic cases.

1) Our hospital has all the latest equipments & facilities for the benefit of patients.

2) All cataract surgeries are done free of cost in the NPCB programme.

3) Services for glaucoma are also offered to patients & treatment is given free of cost.

4) Every day a separate specialty clinic is conducted by the respective specialist doctor.

5) Vitrectomy as well as Keratoplasty surgeries are conducted free of cost in our college (under MPJAY).

6) There is an availability of lasers also which are helpful to the patients with Diabetic Retinopathy.

7) We had already treated multiple patients of MUCORMYCOSIS during the peak of the disease. A special ward was also created for the same.

8) We conduct multiple cataract camps as well as other multidiagnostic camps for free that give maximum benefit to the patients.
