The Department of Medicine at Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe-Patil Foundations (DVVPFs) Medical College and Hospital, (also informally known as Vikhe-Patil Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Vadgaon Gupta, Post- MIDC, Ahilyanagar (Maharashtra) is the largest department of college in terms of workload.
The department is not only providing outstanding basic medical care in the field of medicine but also is productive in its scientific contributions. The faculty has helped to establish the role of physicians as consultants and teachers in fields such as Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, Critical Care, Geriatrics, Neurology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Hematology, Rheumatology, Nephrology, Oncology and endocrinology particularly diabetes and thyroid disorders.
Specialty OPDs are regularly conducted by qualified faculties. The department runs MBBS and MD courses/ and has a strong background of research and publications.

1.Eco-friendly implementation of program for prevention & control of CAD, hypertension, diabetes, TB and other communicable diseases.

Future Plan :
Department currently running super specialty OPDs and has facility of Cardiac Cath Lab, Dialysis Centre, and Oncology Centre. The department also has allied specialties of Departments of pulmonology, Dermatology and Psychiatry. Future plan •Start the super specialty services in Neurology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Immunology, Haematology and ART centre. •Take measures to increase the seats of MD medicine to full capacity. •Start post-graduate courses in allied specialties of cardiology, nephrology & oncology. Other courses to be added gradually in due course of time. •Start digital library in the department. •Develop e-resource vault that will have audio visual lecture/demonstrations for ease of teaching. •Digitalise all documentation and records of the department.
Other Information :
1.Department runs in complete hormany with morning rounds in MICU with whole team of residents and faculty, where all the serious patients are seen collectively and discussed. All the faculty and residents contribute and learn.
2.Department maintains a Whatsapp group “Sherlock Medicos” where all the faculty and residents (present and past) are members. They contribute with updated articles and opinions on complex medical problems. Which stimulates the inquisite minds.
3.During COVID pandemic faculty performed duties in CIVIL hospital and COVID centre of the district before start of the covid centre in our hospital.
4.Actively involed in runing Covid centre and maintaining department covid management protocols for hospital and for whole district of Ahilyanagar.
