The Department of Community Medicine of DVVPFs Medical college is distinguished for taking leadership in capacity building of undergraduate students right from first year to intership through community based teaching ,community service and research . This multidiciplinary approach will help to develop their role as family physician.
By student centric teaching and learning we provide opportunities to develope skills ,knowledge and perspectives to understand the holistic concept of health so as to make them enable to provide community health services.
The rural and urban health and training centers provide health services to people residing in the field practice area as well provide community exposure to medical ,nursing and paramedics to understand various social,environmental determinants of health.

Future Plan :
General: After due deliberations in the department amongst faculty members the following plan has been formulated to cover the next five years. Aim: The aim is to consolidate the strengths of the department and improve the infrastructure and basic necessities to provide quality medical education to undergraduate students and train them to work as family physicians to provide comprehensive primary health care. Infrastructure: RHTC: This center is the fundamental and inescapable requirement of the department of community medicine, as it is the launch pad for all community based programmes of public health and an important training tool for the undergraduates, interns, residents of clinical department and nursing students. Recently our institute received permission to develop Rural Hospital Wambori to develop as Rural Health Training Center. Accordingly training facilities for interns, residents and residential facilities for interns will be developed in Wambori. Community services will be extended and specialty services like medicine, surgery, paediatrics, ophthalmology will be provided by posting the faculties and residents from our institute. Besides the infrastructure / equipment / instruments, necessary manpower needs to be provided. UHTC: Urban Health Training Center to provide comprehensive health services has been developed and is functioning at new location since July 2021 with infrastructure facilities to provide out patient services, general as well as speciality services and essential laboratory services. All the families in urban slums and other families in the field practice area of UHTC will be enrolled and family folders will be prepared. Extension of services to provide preventive /curative services, speciality services in medicine, surgery, orthopedics, opthalmology, gynaecology and pediatrics, etc. will be provided by posting the faculties and residents from our institute. Library: Recent editions of all textbooks in Preventive and Social Medicine and Public Health, Health Admistration and Management, WHO modules, training modules, national as well as international journals will be made available for students as well as faculties. Museum: The status and standard of the department of Community Medicine can be gauged by the museum of the department. Health Education & Prevention, WHO criteria and national programmes need to be highlighted especially for UGs in the museum. New models, equipments and charts will be made available as per the new NMC guidelines. Improvement in Academic Performance: Faculty development- by organizing and participating in Curriculum Training workshops of MUHS. Motivating and encouraging faculty to participate as resource person for CISP/Research Methodology workshops and to present research papers in national conferences. Organization of CPDs-Continuing Professional Development by organizing MMC accredited CPDs / Guest Lectures / Workshops, etc. Remedial classes for slow learners and motivation of advanced learners to conduct research, present scientific papers, prepare models, participate in Quiz competitions. Research: Funded research projects are conducted by students are eight till date. Planning for more research projects, especially community based research in future. Faculty will conduct the research projects in community as well as motivate and guide UG students for research. Other Points: Dedicated vehicle (20 seater) for field work in UHTC/RHTC b) Additional para-medical staff :- i) Social worker (one each for UHTC, RHTC) ii) PH nurse (one each for UHTC, RHTC) iii) Lab Assistant for investigation in filed surveys iv) Health educator v) Museum caretaker Collar mikes and speakers in all common lecture halls as well as department lecture hall / demo room Guest lectures from reputed persons for health awareness will be planned and executed. Planning for health check up and health education programmes for non teaching staff, mess workers and for community.
